Today our club finds ourselves in a situation that we had no aspiration to be in – the relegation final of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship. It wasn’t in the script for us to be where we are but this is the reality and tough as it may be we have come to accept it.
Nothing can be done to change our current predicament; all of us at CLG Cora Chaitlín find ourselves sixty minutes away from being an Intermediate club.
What we do have the power to do is to join forces, everyone in the parish of Newmarket-on-Fergus, from Ballycar to Ballysallagh, Bunratty to Ballygirreen, Clonmoney to Clenagh, Kilnasoolagh to Kilmaleery, Drumline to Dromoland, Lough Gash to Lemenagh and all the areas in between everyone must play their part and get behind our Senior Hurlers and our club as we face one hell of a battle.
Our one hundred and thirty one year history is something to treasure. We’ve had good days and bad days. Today falls into the category of being a defining day for the club and we’re calling on the people of Newmarket-on-Fergus to get behind us. Make no mistake there will be plenty of people gathered in Sixmilerbridge watching and hoping to see us fall, so we need a powerful and vocal united front to counteract this.
Few teams can match the dedication and commitment of our Senior Hurlers this year, they have put in an almighty effort and fully deserve your support at 4pm in Sixmilebridge. Win, lose or draw we stand beside our players and management and we wish them the very best of luck. Great men and women have worn the Newmarket-on-Fergus jersey down through the years and believe that there will be plenty of great men in the Blues dressing room this evening.
Let your voice be heard today, play every ball, make every tackle and show the power of the sixteenth man/woman/child. Of course there is a possibility that things may not go our way on the day and if we fall we will rise again.
Nothing beats being there – 4pm in Sixmilebridge, cometh the hour cometh the Blues.
It wasn’t in the script but now is the time to rewrite the script. ALLEZ LES BLEUS
Very best wishes to the Blues this afternoon – I am confident that their proud hurling tradition and fighting spirit will see them over the line.
Good luck to all involved.
John Clancy Dublin.
