Our Junior B Hurlers lost out in their Division 4 League opener last Sunday.
They went down to Clooney/Quin 2-15 0-11. Having secured promotion last year, John Hannon’s side are now competing against tougher opposition which will assist in their progress throughout the year.
Overall Clooney/Quin were the superior side with Alan Culligan and Éanna Barry causing problems for the sixty minutes.
Those who have followed our Junior B’s for decades will have noticed that a McCarthy once more stood between the posts. Prior to his refereeing career, Anthony McCarthy was a reliable netminder for the Juniors and on Sunday, his youngest son Conor more known as a corner back acted as the custodian. He showed glimpses of the genes being passed on with two excellent saves but Tony would have saved the Clooney/Quin sideline cut that ended up in the back of the net and possibly the penalty, although Milky did dive the correct way!
While the result was not the desired outcome, a major plus was the return to competitive action of James McNamara and Eoghan McNeill, both of whom have not lined out for the club in recent years. We’re delighted to welcome back players to our Junior side.
