After picking up a six point win over Clonlara in Round One, Clarecastle came into this game on a high unlike Newmarket-on-Fergus who may rue their one point loss to Kilmaley on home turf last Tuesday.

Within the first minute Clarecastle scored their first goal. Newmarket were unlucky hitting at least 4 wides and spurned three goal chances.

When Newmarket passed the ball they sometimes failed to see who they needed to pass to and it ended in Clarecastle’s hands. The Blues showed much better form in the second half as Clarecastle only scored one point more than the visitors.

Early missed chances from the Blues didn’t boost their confidence but they showed good fight over the hour to leave them in a positive place ahead of next Sunday’s clash with Doora/Barefield in which some missing players will be back in the club colours.

A physically stronger and more clinical Clarecastle are showing why they’re worthy of the favourites tag in this championship. They’ll be aiming for another win next weekend when they face Sixmilebridge.
