Blues Defeated In Féile Encounters

With a different format for the Féile games, 2 x 15 minutes halves is all the teams had to get their attack going. Wolfe Tones got off to a great start with two goals in two possessions, one from the very strong Liam Murphy, the Wolfe Tones Captain and centre forward.

 

Newmarket got the next score from a placed ball, a point off the stick of Peter Power. Newmarket playing with a strong breeze in the first half  and found it hard to get the ball on target with two wides in succession.

 

Wolfe Tones came back with a point from play with Peter Power responding with another free.  Another goal for Wolfe Tones from Liam Murphy with a long range free beating Cian Foley in the Newmarket goal. Wolfe Tones certainly had their minds set on goals this evening scoring another goal from a clearance from Foley in goal, they took another point form a free.

 

Peter Power then landed Newmarket’s third point from a free in the opening 15 minutes.  Leaving it Wolfe Tones 4-2  Newmarket 0-3. Wolfe Tones came out in the 2nd half and again took another goal this time from Eoin Duff. Newmarket opened their scoring from play from a point from Conor Freeman. The Shannon side scored a point from a free just before Seadhna Liddy narrowly struck the ball wide for a goal chance for Newmarket. Wolfe Tones took another point from a free, with Newmarket finishing with 2 points from play from Seadhna Liddy and JJ Hanton.

 

 

Overall Wolfe Tones played well throughout taking the scoring chances and finishing the goal chances they got. Newmarket fought hard and will have another chance to make amends for this defeat next Friday night at home. Peter Power, Conor Freeman and Seadhna Liddy battled hard.

In the second game Newmarket fielded a new team to face the combo of Meelick/Parteen.

 

A very even game throughout, again Newmarket went behind with Meelick/Parteen taking a goal to open the scoring.  A second goal came for the amalgamation arrived at the end of the first half beating Adam Enright in the Newmarket Goal.  Oisin Mc Inerney opened the Newmarket scoring with a goal from play and Newmarket fought back to get the draw with a long range free hitting the net to take a share of the spoils.  Harry Frost worked hard throughout and also doing well in this game were Josh Ryan, Jack Moloney and Dylan Crowe.

Back to training now on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday to prepare for the last game of the round in Group 2.

 

Wolfe Tones went on to beat Meelick/Parteen in their match on a score of 5-5 to 0-1 they will now face Feakle/Killanena on Monday in Newmarket in one semi final. In the other semi final Tulla came out of their group to play Crusheen/Tubber again on Monday in Newmarket. The winner will go on to represent Clare in Feile 2016 in Tipperary/Waterford venues.

 

Newmarket will have representatives in handball Feile competition the same weekend on June, with Darragh Whelan, Conor Freeman, Oisin McInerney and Mark Delaney going on to have a go at the national stage as a team. Best of luck to them. Also on the team with them will be Cian Fawl who plays at the handball club. Ellen Casey will be the girls representative in the skills competition.
