Perfection From Paula On Today FM

Quarter-final wins for our Senior & Junior B hurlers made it a positive weekend for our club, our mood was further lifted on Monday morning thanks to Asst PRO, Paula Carr Whelan.

She appeared on Today FM’s Breakfast Show which is usually presented by Ian Dempsey but on this occasion Al Porter was in the host’s chair. The station is running a competition offering sportsclubs the chance to win €1000 and Paula got through the qualifiers to appear alongside Justin from Galway.

Their first question was to recognise a sportstar based on an audio clip, Justin knew it was Robbie Keane while Paula was quick off to mark to answer correctly with Brian O’Driscoll. Their next task was to sing a line of a song, Justin had Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ and there was no stopping Paula when she gave a brief rendition of Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’. Both were given a multiple choice question and asked to name the right year, Justin was bang on saying Michael Carruth won Gold in 1992, Paula was on the ball again correctly answering Roy Keane’s departure from Saipan was in 2002, the same year her son and U15 hurler Darragh was born!

It then went to a tie-break, both had been asked to estimate how long U2’s latest song ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’ is, Justin guessed 3:11 but thankfully Paula was closest with 3:30.

Massive congratulations to Paula for winning for her club, she is a brilliant volunteer and has been exceptional in the role of Asst PRO, travelling all over Co Clare to keep us updated on social media. On top of that, she is part of the Tradraí committee who will soon launch the 2016 edition and also is part of the team leading the Night At The Dogs fundraiser. Thanks Paula for this and everything you’ve done for the club, we could all learn from her.

Interestingly it adds to the close links between Newmarket-on-Fergus GAA and Today FM, last year U13 hurler Aaron Moroney appeared on the Dermot & Dave Show following his feat for Dare To Care when he wore a tutu during an U12 clash with Ogonnelloe.
