The U16 girls played against Cratloe today in the U16C Semi-final in Newmarket, to which they came out victorious on a score line of 4-5 to 0-4. Don’t let the score line fool you, it was a tough physical battle.
Newmarket’s Kaci Toomey was first to register a score, followed by another from a free by Ellen Casey. Kaci then managed to put over another point before Cratloe from a free got on the scoreboard at 15 mins in. Ellen then retaliated for Newmarket by hitting the back of the net a few minutes later.
Cratloe then went on the attack and set their sights on a goal which was superbly saved by Niamh Glesson. After that Newmarket’s Katie Duggan went on to score a goal, followed closely by a point. Before half time whistle blew, Cratloe had gone on to score the next 2 points.
Cratloe were 1st then to register a score in the 2nd half and what ensued for the next 15 minutes was a battle of wills. Each trying to get the ball over the line. Newmarket’s goalkeeper Niamh and defender Kate Clancy had to make several attempts to stop a resilient Cratloe from scoring. Until Elva Morrisey managed to hit the back of the net twice for Newmarket. Before the final whistle blew Newmarket’s, Kaci managed to put another over the cross-bar.
This impressive team are so far undefeated this year and have topped their group convincingly.
They will go on to play the final October 21st against the winners of the Banner Vs Whitegate semi-final.
