Blues Gather For AGM

Topping last year which saw our biggest crowd attend an AGM was always going to be an ask.

However forty one people gave up their Sunday evening to discuss the year that was for CLG Cora Chaitlín in what for the most part was a very productive gathering.

Runaí Concepta O’Connor opened the meeting by reading off the minutes from the 2016 AGM. She then proceeded to give the Secretary’s Report in which the exploits of all adult hurling teams were detailed. She acknowledged those who promote the games at all levels and the work being done in the four primary schools as well as her fellow officers.

Jimmy Clancy in his Treasurer’s Report had positive news with a strong year for the club’s finances. A lot of this goes down to the success of our Dogs Night, Family Day and various other fundraisers.

Public Relations Officer, Páraic McMahon spoke of the important role Tradraí plays in the club. Social media’s role was commented upon and how some people abuse this. McMahon noted that very little team success was achieved in the club and efforts must be done to reverse this. He thanked several people for their assistance.

Freddy McInerney who is to enter his third year as Chairman, outlined the requirements of his role. He went through the various committees in the club, highlighting the importance of each and every one. Freddy stressed the “social aspect” of the club and how vital it is. He suggested that a more professional approach needs to be adopted for the hosting of games in Fr Murphy Memorial Park.

Motions relating to the wearing of club gear and the possible redesign of the crest were passed. Several ideas on the table were passed on to the relevant committee to flesh out while a proposal has been put forward to revise the parish rule. A proposal to increase the cost of membership to alleviate with the costs of running the club was defeated by an overwhelming majority.

In addressing the gathering, Pat Halpin suggested the Clubhouse be opened once a month to allow people meet for a cup of tea, a chat and a game of cards. He also wants a review into access to club grounds.
A minute’s silence was held at the end of the gathering in memory of all those that have had involvement with the club that have since died.
