Senior Camogie 2018 Division 1 League Opening Match

Today, Monday April 2nd, saw the opening round of the Senior Camogie 2018 Division 1 league. Newmarket-on-Fergus started off well with 2 points within 2 minutes of throw in, 1 from a free taken by Niki Kaiser and the other from play by Kate Clancy.

But once Sixmilebridge found their feet, they were the dominant force in the remainder of the 1st half. With scores from Chloe Morey, Finia O’Brien and a goal from Sarah Loughane seeing half time finishing on a score line of 1-08 to 0-05 to Sixmilebridge.

In the 2nd half Newmarket started to show the same spirit they started with, with Rachel Kelleher being the one to take the lead for Newmarket and go on to score a goal and 3 points to really bring Newmarket back into the game. Carol O’Leary was also outstanding in defense. Points from newcomer Lorraine Bible and the equalizer by Niki Kaiser saw the teams at 1-11 a piece in the dying minutes. But a Chloe Morey pass to Niamh Lyons who went onto score the point that won Sixmilebridge the match.

The girls take on Clooney-Quin at home next Saturday, April 7th at 6pm.
