Newmarket on fergus U14 (2nd team) 4:6 Bodyke/Mills 3:9

It was a perfect evening for hurling with the pitch in excellent condition and a credit to all involved in its care. The sun was shining into the Ballycar end that Newmarket were defending and there was a slight breeze from the town. We got off to a shaky start and conceded 3 goals in the first 10 Mins. Even though they are a young team they did not drop the heads or panic. They picked up the pace and began to dominate the game. We scored 2-1 in the first half and should have had another goal except for an excellent save from the Bodyke/Mills keeper. We trailed at half time 2-1 to 3-5.

The second half started as the first finished and the game was played at a fast moving pace with all the great skills of hurling displayed by both teams. We were denied a goal for a square ball. The pressure was all on the opposition and we equalised in the last minute of the game and it finished on a score line of 4-6 to 3-9. This was a great match and both teams displayed great commitment, skill, teamwork and passion and a draw was a fair result. The 2 goal keepers were exceptional and made some great saves.
