Newmarket-on-fergus 5:9 The Banner 2:12
The point has been made before that this is a particularly young U14 Newmarket team with just 5 players on the age. Nevertheless they produced a fantastic performance to gain their first win of the campaign against a gallant Banner side. There was little to choose between them throughout the first half but the Ennis boys were better able to convert their chances and led by 2:8 to 2:5 at the break.
In the second half however our defence shut up shop, thereafter limiting their opponents to just a few points from frees. In the middle we had ball carriers and a telling ability to strike it long into the square. In the ensuing mayhem, we had forwards capable of getting the ball over the bar and into the net. With ten minutes to go the sides were level but our boys fought tooth and nail. All credit to The Banner who had several fine hurlers and many good passages of play. On this particular evening though, when sometimes the sun was in your eyes and sometimes it was pelting rain, our boys just would not be denied.
