Killanena came to Newmarket on Fergus and started off like they were going to win this game.
They took off with a lead of 0-05 to 0-00 lead within the first 7 minutes. Liam Clancy opened the home teams scoring with 2 long range frees in quick succession. Malacy Noonan took the Blues next score from play after 15 minutes and then Killanena raised a green flag for a goal 1-05 to 0-03. They then went on to score 2 more points and a goal without reply before Liam Clancy closed the first half with point from another placed ball. The home support did not hold much hope at half time with the score of 2-07 to 0-04 and to be playing against a strong wind, it looked like a huge mountain to overcome.
This team have some spirit and never gave up, it took 6 minutes to open the 2nd half scoring and Liam Clancy took off where he left the 1st half with another pointed free. James Freeman and Clancy worked well together with some lovely support play to take a couple of fine points from tight angles along with Oisin Pender and Colm McCaul raising white flags. It was in the 19th minute Newmarket drew level but Killanena battled back it looked like a draw was on the card but up stepped James Freeman in the 32nd minute with a cracking score to give the Blues (white inside out, due to the colour clashing) the win. Well done all, ye certainly did the jerseys proud!
