Sunday afternoon saw the U13 B Clare Camogie Plate final took place.
Bodyke were first off the mark with a goal from Chelsea Tubridy. Then Newmarket-on-Fergus’ Amy Madden put a lovely point over to make it 1-0 to 0-1. Bodyke retaliated with another goal, and were leading NOF by 5 points. The Blues stepped up a gear when Emma Crowe found the back of the net, followed closely by a great solo run by Amy Madden which resulted in another goal.
Amy then managed to get another point from play before Bodyke found the back of the net just before half time, giving them a one point lead going into the second half.
The second half started slowly, it was six minutes before Kaci Toomey put over a point, tying the sides. A few minutes later Amy put NOF back in front with another lovely point. Both Amy and Kaci went on the score a point each giving NOF a 3-point lead. But it wasn’t enough Bodyke’s Leah Minogue had other plans and went on to score a goal to tie the sides yet again which resulted in extra time having to be played. The excitement was building for both sides. No one could sit down at this point and really got behind their respective teams.
Extra time started off extremely well for NOF with Kaci scoring a brilliant goal and a few minutes later Amy scored another. The Blues were unstoppable, they maintained most of the possession in extra time. When Bodyke did manage to get the ball, they kept goal keeper Amy Considine (C) on her toes with a few scary moments, but they held tight with some exceptional defending and even put two more points over before the full-time whistle blew.
Newmarket really stood up in a very exciting match, from one to twenty three they never rested on their laurels and kept going. Their supporters were in fine voice and really got behind them. The future is definitely bright for these fine camogie players and thanks to their fantastic management team, Kevin and Magaret Enright, Kevin Toomey, Elaine Madden and Michelle Crowe.
