U12 Hurling 2018 Season Review

The U12 hurling season started off for 2018 with winter training in January under lights in Clonmoney school was great to see big numbers at training each week. We then moved to the hurling field end of February to twice a week.

We had a panel of 29 players so were able to field 2 teams for every match to ensure all players got as much game time as possible. Also this year we were placed in Group A for the U12 hurling league which consisted of 12 teams after this group of players had done so well in the U11 A league the previous year. This was a great introduction for these young players to be involved in an competitive environment  11 aside teams with official refs and scores submitted. The league started in April and concluded with finals in Cusack park end of July. Between league & challenge matches the older U12 team played 12 matches. Which included wins over Broadford ,Wolfe Tones twice, Tulla, Crusheen/Tubber, Clarecastle, Ballyea and drew with Mills/Bodyke and lost to stronger Inagh Kilnamona ,Clonlara,Clarecastle Cratloe and their last league match at home played a great game of hurling in 27 degrees heat v Sixmilebridge to only lose by 1 goal in the end.

The younger U11 hurling team also between league & challenge matches played 12 games. Which included wins over Wolfe Tones twice, Crusheen/Tubber ,Tulla, Ballyea,Cratloe,Clarecastle,Scariff/Ogonnelloe lost close games twice to Sixmilebridge and lost to stronger Clonlara & Inagh Killnamona teams. There was some great displays of hurling skills fight and battling qualities from this group again this year who were a credit to themselves their families and the club every time they lined out for the blues. Well done from all the coaches to all players involved for all the hard work in training and matches and thanks to the great support from the parents. Best of luck to the players involved in the U13 hurling championship and the U11 championship, both of which start in mid-August.
